Join us in calling on all political parties to help save around 5,900 lives between now and 2040.

We’ve made huge progress on cancer in the last 50 years. But right now, the cancer challenge in Northern Ireland is more urgent than ever.

Too many people are facing unacceptable waits for diagnosis, treatment and care.

The next Executive has the power to change this. By prioritising cancer and committing to our calls, around 5,900 lives could be saved by 2040.

But we can't make this happen without you. Add your name today.

Together, let's demand a future with better cancer outcomes for all.

What are Cancer Research UK calling for?

Ahead of the election in 2027, we've launched Longer, better lives: A manifesto for cancer research and care in Northern Ireland. We're asking all political parties in Northern Ireland to:

  1. End unacceptable waits for cancer care: We need an urgent stabilisation and recovery plan to cut waiting times and tackle the cancer care backlog. This should include realistic interim targets, better use of data, updated GP referral guidelines, and making full use of diagnostic services.

  1. Diagnose more cancers earlier: Early diagnosis is a vital part of improving cancer outcomes. That’s why the next Executive must improve access to timely primary care for all, introduce targeted lung cancer screening, and extend the bowel screening programme.

  1. Take action to prevent more cancers: It is vital that the Executive fully implements the Tobacco and Vapes Act, invests in stop smoking services, introduces minimum unit pricing (MUP) for alcohol, delivers the Healthy Futures obesity strategy, and increases HPV vaccination uptake.

  1. Strengthen the research environment: Research and innovation have the power to drive breakthroughs in cancer prevention, detection and treatment. The next Executive must develop a fully funded action plan to create a pipeline of clinical researchers, remove barriers to research delivery and embed a strong research culture across HSC Trusts.
